How are the UC’s going to determine who gets admitted for the class of 2021 without requiring standardized test scores?
The UC’s plan on using the combination of their other metrics such as GPA, essays, letters of recommendation, and any other information that students typically submit. They are also still accepting AP scores (3, 4, and 5). Ultimately, they still need to use something to differentiate students. Therefore, students who choose to submit scores – even if they are average for the UC’s – are most likely going to be rated more highly in terms of admissions than students without those scores. Think of two identical students with the same GPA, attended the same high school, highly involved in extracurricular activities. If one of those students has the added benefit of an ACT score, that student is going to be accepted first.
